Our Mission

teatroàfaca is the theatre company of Upside Down - Associação Cultural, founded by Afonso Molinar in 2018 and based in Lisbon. The company’s main goal is to promote and dynamize the new Lusophone dramaturgy, with a multidisciplinary approach to classic theatre ways, exploring different scenic languages and experimenting with narratives, with the intent to disseminate, decentralize and democratize the access to culture.

Afonso Molinar

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Actor, director, playwright, photographer and founder of teatroàfaca. He studied acting in Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais, Cours Florent in Paris and Escola Superior de Cinema. Did his MA in Scenical Arts in NOVA FCSH. In theatre, he has worked with Carlos Avillez, Fernanda Lapa, Ricardo Neves-Neves and Rui Dionísio, has directed 5 shows and written 4 original plays. He’s the host and creator of the podcast De cortaràfaca, about arts and culture.
Diana Especial

LEAD PRODUCER

Diana Especial has been a theatre producer since 2016, with a degree in Theatre, Production branch, from Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (2018-2021). She did an internship in Stage Management at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. Has produced nearly 20 shows to date, working with AFONSO MOLINAR, ANTÓNIO PIRES, ANTÓNIO SIMÃO, BERNARDO BEJA, BRUNO BRAVO, JORGE ANDRADE, MARIA JOÃO LUÍS, MIGUEL CRUZ, MIGUEL SOPAS. Currently is the Lead Producer at teatroàfaca.
Laura Ribeiro

Theatre came into her life at the age of 12 when she takes part of the amateur group “Aqui Há Gato”, debuting in the auditorium of the Serralves National Museum in 2010. In 2015 she completed the Acting Course at Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo, where she highlights her final show, A Tempo , directed by Nuno Preto. Professionally, she participated as an actress in productions by companies such as Teatro do Bolhão, Ponto Produções, Décadas de Sonho and teatroàfaca.
Simão Vaz

After graduating from Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais, Simão took part of the Year Out Drama Company, in Stratford-upon-Avon, between 2013 and 2014. Since then he has worked as an actor, writer, stage manager and producer across multiple mediums, ranging from theatre, film, livestreaming and radio among others, both in the UK and Portugal. He has worked with Carlos Avillez, Scott LeCrass, Deirdre McLaughlin and Christopher Yarnell.
